      ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:

This is a variation of the original “Involution” painting. By this time I started to create paintings on large sheets of paper. It was more in tune with my intentions of transferring my ink drawing style to larger scale paintings.

This painting was one of a few that I created with a mirror image/symmetrical element. For a long time before this I wondered how to recreate my ink drawings into paintings. After experimenting with scanning my drawings into photoshop and creating these symmetrical renderings, I printed, projected and traced the results onto canvas. This particular piece yielded this animal like face in the center which I found interesting. The essence of style this piece is created from still exists in my current work. An endless exploration of natural visual forms combined with a feeling of energy and electricity in emotion. It’s the primary force behind my work: an attempt to express the deeper, more intense and mysterious feeling of life with my own unique language of shapes.
Involution (1) : the act or an instance of enfolding or entangling.

      ARTIST BIO:

Hello! I’m Kevin, thanks for checking out my artwork! I’m a mostly self taught artist from the Detroit area of Michigan, USA. I’ve been painting and drawing for 20 years now, since the age of 18 or so. As a child I wanted to be a cartoonist, so I have been drawing and creating my whole life. Ironically it was a musician (Bob Dylan) that first inspired me to paint. It was a shift in consciousness for me when I heard “Hurricane” play on TV one day. My perception of the world completely changed from this influence. It created a passionate curiosity for “serious” art, philosophy, music and film in me. A more intellectual approach to creativity. One where I could express more raw emotions and attempt to understand why they occur. I have so many favorite artists, there are far too many to list them all. But I suppose that modern art has been the biggest influence on me. My favorite period of art is during the period of 1890-1910. Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Felix Vallotton and Las Nabis, William Degouve de Nuncques, etc. Other influences include Dali, Magritte, Escher, Pollock, Rothko and much more. I hope you enjoy my work! Thank you.
